A Bird in the Hands
A Bird in the Hands
I can't get over the natural colour of Emu eggs. They are such a prehistoric feeling animal and when you are lucky enough to find an egg, they are a most gorgeous tone of turquoise, mottled and lighter as you scape away the layers deeper to the white inside. I had always wanted to do a small body of work around eggs. The fragility being a lesson in patience and care, and also a lesson in letting go. This piece was part of a collection of egg pieces, some sold, some broke. The etching was all hand designed on the egg and carved with a soft touch and a dust mask. Slowly transforming the egg to a treasure box. Inside are beaded strings encircling the cupped hands with a delicate bird taking flight. If we can all look inside ourselves and open our treasure boxes, might we all take flight? This egg is about 7" long by 5" wide by about 6" tall on its base. It is a one of kind with heaps of hours of love and attention to detail.
